ALASKA - Located on the downtown Juneau, Alaska, cruise ship dock, Patsy the Dog Statue greets hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Patsy Ann, a deaf bull terrier, was born in Portland, Oregon, on October 12, 1929. She grew up to be Juneau's most famous dog.

Patsy Ann Lived All Her Life In Juneau, Alaska


She was brought to the town as a puppy and had no permanent address. She was given a home with two young girls. She was treated well and became a fixture in the town's business community. The city's newspapers documented her activities.

When Patsy Ann was an adult, she eschewed domestic life and spent her time wandering the streets of Juneau. She was especially attracted to the city's harbors. She loved to greet incoming ships. She would swim to the boat and greet them. The ship crews always gave her treats.

Patsy Ann was the most photographed dog west of the Mississippi. She was also known as the Official Greeter of Juneau. She could sense when a ship was about to enter the Juneau Harbor. She would be at the dock before the ship pulled in, and would wait on the dock to greet the ship.

Patsy Ann loved to greet all the visitors to Juneau. The city's citizens loved Patsy Ann. She was a popular tourist attraction and was adored by the people of Juneau. She was known to all residents of Juneau.
